Showcase Participant - GovExec and IBM Cloud Computing Event

GovExec and IBM sponsored this event which was titled “How Cloud is Driving Tomorrow’s Digital Government.” My favorite part was the discussion with Greg Godbout, the Executive Director of 18F which is the organization in the GSA that is working to bring agile, open, and cloud into the culture of the federal government. His clear message is that working “in the open” creates faster innovation!

Kathy Conrad from 18F also spoke and shared examples of people’s expectation of information when they want, how they want it, and on any device they choose. She shared how the use of cloud technologies is taking hold and spreading with examples from DAP, http://Connect.gov, http://Data.gov , FedRamp, and 18F.

John Skudlarek from the FCC spoke on the IT Transformation that is underway in which the FCC will streamline systems while moving to the cloud and be able to do more with less by 2017.

The IBM speakers painted the picture of the future of cloud and hybrid cloud while sharing some of the cost effective and cutting edge technologies that they provide including SoftLayer, BlueMix, and Cloud Security.

I was also at the event to showcase my HerFarm app as a finalist in the IBM BlueMix Federal Challenge and to show people my success with using Bluemix. http://her-farm-flick2.mybluemix.net/ IBM has some game-changing technologies and I’m happy that I’ve been able to use some of them and learn about even more.
